
Ms Sonia Tatar
Executive Director of the INSEAD Corporate Governance Centre
Sonia holds a dual Executive Director position for INSEAD Centres of Excellence in Corporate Governance and Family Business. She has an extensive experience in the broad leadership and governance practices combined with Educational expertise. She has been an active member of several Boards and Governance Groups for the past 10 years.
She is currently engaged with the Governance Working Group of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and the Climate Governance Initiative- Chapter Zero France. Prior to this, Sonia has been a member of IDIAP Search Committee under the Foundation of the Research Institute, a former member of the Global Lodging Forum Board with MKG Group, and three of Les Roches Global Hospitality Education boards serving the Institutions in Europe, Middle East and Asia. In 2016, she has launched and opened successfully, a new Chicago campus for Les Roches Institution expanding the business footprint into the US.
Sonia was also a member of the Association of Governing Boards of Universities and Colleges in US as well as of the Association of private schools in Switzerland. She has worked with different stakeholders predominantly with family owners, investors, and shareholders. She has been an instrumental contributor to businesses acquisition, hand-over and transfer under the Laureate Hospitality Education Leading Group. Across her career span, Sonia has worked in multinational organizations around the world holding a number of senior leadership positions, notably managing a flagship educational institution, two start-up family owned companies, a family hospitality business. She has been a strategic partner to many global companies helping them with the business transformation and growth.
As a strong advocate for thought leadership, Sonia is a guest speaker to various forums such as the Board Summit-Aurora50, the United Nations World Tourism Organization-African Conference alongside government officials and entrepreneurs, Asia Women in leadership Conference and the Global Lodging Forum. In 2017, Sonia was nominated among the “100 leading personalities” the movers and shakers making the Suisse Romande and recognized as the “Exporter of Knowledge”. In 2013, she was recognized as “Women of Power” in the Swiss Alps region. Sonia has a combined Master’s degree in Languages, Management and Administration, and has attended postgraduate studies (D.E.A) in Italian Civilization and Literature at la Sorbonne. She is passionate about Arts, she writes opinion pieces and business articles and contributes to practice-based research studies in the fields of Corporate Governance, Family Business and Hospitality, Tourism sector.
