Ms. Su-Yen Wong
Chairperson, Singapore Institute of Directors
Su-Yen serves on the Boards of several public, private, and not-for-profit organisations in Australia, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Singapore, and the United States, and she chairs or is a member of various Nominating, Remuneration, and Audit Committees. She is a Fellow and Chairman of the Governing Council of the Singapore Institute of Directors, and is an active member of Women Corporate Directors, and the Young Presidents’ Organization. She has extensive experience in Asia across a broad range of industries and is the only Asia-based individual named to the Financial Times’ Agenda Directory of Top 100 Board Candidates With Pay-Setting Skills. She led the team that advised on salaries of the President, Prime Minister, Political Appointment Holders, and Members of Parliament in Singapore.
Su-Yen is Chairperson of Nera Telecommunications, a global telecom and IT solutions provider that operates in Asia, Middle East, Europe and Africa, listed on the Singapore Exchange Mainboard. She serves as an Independent Director at CSE Global, an international technology group offering solutions to industries in the Automation, Telecommunications and Environmental sectors, listed on the Singapore Exchange Mainboard; Kemin Industries, a US$1 billion privately-held global manufacturer of nutritional and health solutions headquartered in the United States; Yoma Strategic Holdings, a conglomerate with diversified business interests in Myanmar across real estate, consumer, agriculture/heavy equipment, and fintech, listed on the Singapore Exchange Mainboard; First Resources, a S$2 billion market cap palm oil producer in Asia with plantations across Indonesia, listed on the Singapore Exchange Mainboard; and CPA Australia, one of the world’s largest accounting bodies with over 150,000 members globally.
Recognised as a Board and C-Suite advisor on strategy, human capital, and leadership development, her perspectives are shaped by a unique blend of experience at the board and C-level in high-tech, business, and organisation development gleaned over 25 years across Asia and North America. An accomplished multicultural business leader who has lived and worked globally, she is able to seamlessly navigate both Western and Asian viewpoints and values, and brings hands-on experience in transformation and change.
She has advised and worked with some of the world’s largest, most innovative, and complex organisations including Accenture, Alibaba, the ASEAN Secretariat, AT&T, Bank of America, Becton Dickinson, Caltex, Citibank, China Mobile, DBS, ExxonMobil, the Government of Singapore, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, Hyatt, IBM, Microsoft, Moet Hennessy, Oracle, SingTel, and SK Telecom.
Previously, she was Chief Executive Officer of the Human Capital Leadership Institute. Earlier she was Chairperson (Singapore) for Marsh & McLennan Companies; Managing Director, Southeast Asia at Mercer; and Asia Managing Partner for the Communications, Information & Entertainment practice at Oliver Wyman.
Su-Yen is a professional speaker who engages audiences globally on leadership and the future of work and what it means for organisations, individuals, and society. She who has addressed audiences from the United States to Ukraine, and is also a highly-rated guest lecturer and visiting expert at universities such as IESE Business School (Spain), INSEAD (France), IPADE Business School (Mexico), Singapore Management University, and Yale University (USA). She is an Adjunct Professor at the National University of Singapore where she teaches a Masters course on Global Leadership.
Often featured in print, broadcast and online media such as CNBC, Channel News Asia, The Wall Street Journal, and Bloomberg, Su-Yen is a published author of an Amazon Bestseller – Unleash Your Voice: Powerful Public Speaking for Every Woman – and she co-authored the Asian edition of How Digital is Your Business? She is one of 24 women featured in Women on Board: Making a Difference.
Su-Yen holds a B.A. (summa cum laude) in music and computer science from Linfield University, and an M.B.A. from the Kenan-Flagler Business School, University of North Carolina. She is an award-winning photographer and earlier in life, a musician. She is an avid adventure traveller and has ventured to some of the most remote parts of the world, including Antarctica and Timbuktu. She is training for Everest Base Camp in support of mental health.
